Bio
Recruited from the North Colts, Fred MacQuire was the son of prominent local bookmaker "Fishy" MacQuire and arrived at Arden Street with a reputation as a high-flying, pacey utility. He made his senior debut in Round 4, 1956, showing promise on a half-back flank and managing ten games in his maiden season before a broken hand against Fitzroy prematurely ended his campaign. Despite the strong start, MacQuire struggled to recapture a permanent spot in the senior lineup over the subsequent three years, often serving as a depth player or coming off the bench. His finest moment in the royal blue and white came at the lower level, where he was named best afield and booted three goals in the Shinboners' 1957 reserves premiership victory before retiring from VFL football prior to the 1960 season.
