Bio
Recruited from Collingwood District, Fred Mutch entered the VFL system with strong family ties to the Magpies, following his brothers Charlie and Alec—the latter a premiership regular—to Victoria Park. A wingman by trade, Mutch struggled to cement a place in the senior lineup, spending significant time in the seconds where he featured in the club’s 1922 reserves premiership. After managing just three senior games in black and white, he crossed to arch-rivals Carlton in 1926 for a brief seven-game stint, ultimately serving as a depth player for both heavyweights during the mid-1920s.
