Bio
A seasoned campaigner by the time the VFL launched, Fred Nomens joined Fitzroy with a background in the VFA representing Essendon and junior football with Hawthorn. Born in Newstead, he was recruited to add experience to the Maroons' forward setup for the historic 1897 inaugural season. Nomens managed to boot a goal during his brief stint at Brunswick Street but found his opportunities limited, featuring in just two senior matches before bowing out of the league. While his time in the new competition was fleeting, he remains one of the club’s foundation players who helped bridge the gap during the breakaway season.
