Bio
A diminutive forward pocket standing just 168cm, Fred Petterson was recruited from Mitcham after establishing himself as a star in the eastern suburbs. His pathway to Victoria Park was heavily influenced by former Magpie Paddy Gilchrist, who coached Petterson during Mitcham's premiership run and recommended the small forward to club recruiters. Petterson debuted midway through the 1921 season and held his spot for five consecutive matches, managing a single goal during his brief exposure to the top level. Unable to secure a permanent place in the Collingwood lineup, he returned to Mitcham at the end of the year, where he continued to serve as a key player in local football.
