Bio
Recruited from Sea Lake in the Mallee region, Fred Rose was a goal-kicking forward whose brief VFL career was heavily defined by his military service during World War II. He made his debut in the opening round of the famous 1945 season, booting three goals across just two senior appearances while still on active duty. Despite hitting the scoreboard, Rose was a casualty of the club's ruthless "youth policy" restructure following a winless start to the year, a strategic pivot that ultimately propelled the Blues to the legendary "Bloodbath" premiership. Following a stint serving in the Solomon Islands, he did not return to VFL level, eventually settling back into country life on the land near Moama.
