Stats
Bio
Recruited from Ararat in western Victoria, Fred Sleeman was a diminutive footballer who made a brief but consistent contribution to Melbourne during the 1906 VFL season. Standing just 168cm, he was cleared to the club in April and immediately selected for the senior side, going on to play 14 matches and kick four goals, likely operating as a rover or forward pocket. His tenure at the Demons is frequently cited by club historians due to a quirk of the team list: he played alongside Lance Sleeman, another 1906 debutant, although the two teammates were unrelated. Sleeman did not extend his VFL career beyond that solitary season, eventually leaving the city to return to country Victoria, where he passed away in Dunkeld in 1953.
