Stats
Bio
Recruited from the North Carlton Presbyterians in the local church competition, Fred Stancliffe was a tall timber forward who offered a significant physical presence in the Collingwood forward line. Standing at 185cm—a considerable height for the Edwardian era—he was brought into the side early in the 1905 season and showed enough promise to hold his spot for the Semi-Final clash against Carlton. Despite that high-pressure finals appearance in his debut year, Stancliffe struggled to command a permanent place in the Magpies' starting 22 over the subsequent seasons, managing just five more senior appearances across 1906 and 1907. He eventually departed Victoria Park to continue his career in the VFA with Brunswick, leaving behind a brief legacy as a big man who played his part in a finals campaign but couldn't quite cement a long-term role.
