Bio
A seasoned VFA campaigner, Fred Turnbull arrived at St Kilda as a 31-year-old mature-age recruit in the middle of the 1915 season. Previously the captain of Brighton and a former player for Brunswick and Prahran, he brought valuable experience to the Saints' lineup and made an immediate impact by kicking a goal in his debut victory over Geelong. His brief VFL career was significantly curtailed by the First World War, which forced St Kilda into recess for the 1916 and 1917 seasons, restricting Turnbull to just seven games in his first year. He returned for a solitary appearance in 1918 before eventually moving into coaching at VFA and amateur level.
