Stats
Bio
Recruited from Balwyn in the Eastern Suburbs, Fred Wain was a tall utility who joined Hawthorn during a bleak competitive era for the club. Standing 183cm, he possessed the size to play key posts and made an immediate impact upon his arrival, holding down a regular spot to play 17 games in his debut 1949 season. Despite this promising start, Wain struggled to cement a long-term position in the senior side, managing only sporadic appearances in 1950 and spending the entire 1951 season out of the lineup. He returned to add defensive depth to the squad for a final stint in 1952, ultimately remembered as a service player who plugged gaps during a period when the Hawks consistently languished near the bottom of the ladder.
