Stats
Bio
Recruited from local club Parkside Amateurs, Fred West was a sturdy ruck-rover who showed early promise at Victoria Park. Standing 183cm, he made an immediate impact in his debut 1950 season, playing 14 games and looking comfortable at the elite level. However, competition for spots in the Magpies' engine room was fierce during the club's transition under Phonse Kyne, and West found himself unable to break into the senior side for the next two seasons. He earned a brief recall for three matches during the club's 1953 premiership campaign but ultimately missed selection for the finals series. Seeking regular senior opportunities after failing to cement a spot in the powerful Collingwood lineup, he transferred to Box Hill in the VFA the following year.
