Bio
Born in Birmingham, England, Frederick West was one of the few overseas-born players attempting to crack the VFL in the late 1920s. He arrived at Glenferrie Oval during the bleakest period of Hawthorn’s history, joining the "Mayblooms" in 1928—a season in which the club failed to win a single game. Standing 178cm, West was a mid-sized utility who rotated through the forward line and flanks, managing three goals during his brief tenure. Like many players in that struggling side, he found it difficult to cement a long-term position amidst the constant team turnover and was delisted after just two seasons and 12 senior appearances. He later served his country with the Australian Army during the Second World War.
