Bio
Recruited from East Fremantle with pick 26 in the 2005 National Draft, Garrick Ibbotson began his career oscillating between midfield and forward roles before finding his true calling in the backline. He evolved into a composed and reliable rebounding defender, best known for his elite intercept marking and capacity to read the play ahead of the ball. His ability to peel off his opponent and launch counter-attacks became a signature element of Fremantle's disciplined defensive unit during the Ross Lyon era.
Ibbotson reached the height of his powers in 2013, earning a place in the All-Australian squad of 40, though his season ended in heartbreak when an Achilles injury forced him to miss the club's historic Grand Final appearance. He returned to remain a fixture in the side during their 2015 minor premiership run but eventually saw his opportunities diminish as the list underwent a refresh. He retired in 2017 as a one-club player and Life Member, departing with 177 games and a reputation as one of the Dockers' most astute defensive operators.
