Bio
Recruited from Barwon in the local Geelong leagues, Garry Johns served his apprenticeship in the Cats' under-19s program before breaking into the senior side early in the 1984 season. Standing 185cm, he was a solidly built utility who looked comfortable at the level during his brief opportunity, gathering a respectable amount of the ball upon debut in a win over St Kilda at Moorabbin. He retained his spot for a clash against Melbourne at the MCG the following week, but despite averaging 11 disposals across his two appearances, he was unable to cement a permanent place in the lineup. Johns' VFL career concluded after that solitary fortnight of senior football, leaving him as a classic example of a local talent who earned a fleeting taste of the big league before drifting out of the senior setup.
