Recruited from local side Hawthorn City, Garry Rasmussen was a tall utility who provided list depth for the Hawks during their transitional phase in the late 1950s. Standing 187cm, he managed seven senior games and three goals over two seasons but struggled to command a regular spot in the starting eighteen. His most significant contribution came at the reserves level, where he was a central figure in the club's back-to-back seconds premierships in 1958 and 1959 under coach 'Tubby' Edmonds. These victories were viewed as a turning point for the club, helping to instill the winning culture that eventually led to Hawthorn's first senior flag in 1961.
