Teams

Recruited from Rokewood in the Western Plains Football League, Gary Dark arrived at the Western Oval with a formidable country reputation, having claimed the 1963 Henry Brunn Trophy as the league's best and fairest in a premiership side. A capable forward who averaged better than a goal a game during his brief VFL tenure, he managed a handful of senior appearances for Footscray across the 1964 and 1966 seasons while balancing his football with teaching studies. Despite showing promise in front of the sticks, he was unable to cement a permanent spot in the senior lineup and finished his VFL career with eight goals from six matches. Tragically, Dark’s life was cut short just five years after his final game, passing away in 1971 at the age of 26.
