Bio
Recruited from East Ballarat in the country leagues, Gary Ebbels joined Fitzroy in 1967 as a promising forward option. He made his debut as a 20-year-old and showed an immediate aptitude for finding the goals, booting seven majors across his eight senior appearances over two seasons. Despite his ability to hit the scoreboard, Ebbels struggled to cement a permanent spot in the Lions' starting 22 and left the VFL scene at the end of 1968. He eventually returned to the Ballarat region, where he established a significant legacy outside of professional football as a long-serving physical education teacher at Sebastopol College for over four decades.
