Bio
Recruited from Clayton, Gary Frangalas emerged through the South Melbourne development pathways to become a reliable figure for the Swans during their chaotic relocation years. A courageous utility who operated effectively across half-back and half-forward, he was known for his strong overhead marking and ability to read the play. After a standout 1985 season where he didn't miss a game, Frangalas left the Swans after refusing a management directive to relocate permanently to Sydney, instead accepting a clearance to Richmond, the club he supported growing up. However, his tenure at Punt Road was largely derailed by misfortune, with severe knee and soft tissue injuries restricting him to just 17 senior appearances over four years. His connection to the Tigers has since been revived through his son, Sam, who joined the club's VFL program.
