Bio
Recruited from Albury in the club's prolific Ovens & Murray country zone, Gary Gray was a blistering athlete whose football career was defined by raw speed. A professional runner who would later record two top-four finishes in the prestigious Stawell Gift, Gray was utilized by coach Ron Barassi as a line-breaking wingman instructed to simply grab the ball and take off. He worked his way through the ranks, playing in an Under-19s Grand Final in 1972 and a Reserves Grand Final in 1976, before finally breaking into the formidable senior side for two games in 1976. Unfortunately, a severe snapped quadriceps injury halted his momentum just as he reached the top level, ultimately ending his VFL tenure prematurely and seeing him transition to professional athletics. He remains active with the club's past players association in the Albury region.
