Recruited from Carrum in the Federal League, Gary Guy was a rover who earned his opportunity with Melbourne in the mid-1970s. He made a promising start to his VFL career, debuting in Round 4, 1975, and holding his place for the majority of his first season while rotating through the forward line. However, he struggled to consolidate his position in the senior side during the 1976 season, managing only eight appearances before finishing his time at the top level. Following his departure from the Demons, Guy moved to the VFA where he played for Dandenong and later served as captain-coach of Frankston.
