Bio
Recruited from the Collegians Football Club in the VAFA, Gary Irvine was a defensive prospect given his chance at the elite level during the late 1980s. A standout in the amateur ranks known for his ability to run the ball out of the back half, he joined Footscray for the 1988 season wearing the number 47 guernsey. Irvine broke into the senior side to play seven games as a defender, utilising his 185cm frame to match up on opposition forwards while attempting to generate drive from the half-back line. Despite showing promise in the reserves, his VFL tenure was limited to that single season, serving as a brief cameo at the top level before he departed the club.
