Bio
Recruited from Koroit in western Victoria, Keane was a versatile key position player who offered the Lions valuable height at both ends of the ground during the mid-1980s. Standing 193cm, he was a strong overhead mark who enjoyed a breakout season in 1987, polling 10 Brownlow votes—equal most for the club that year—largely due to his ability to intercept across half-back and drift forward to hit the scoreboard. Despite this peak form, his tenure at the top level was relatively brief; he was traded to Geelong ahead of the 1990 season in exchange for a draft pick but was unable to break into the senior side, eventually continuing his career with Frankston in the VFA.
