Bio
A mature-age recruit from Beaufort in country Victoria, Gary Lofts arrived at Moorabbin in the mid-1970s and quickly established himself as a durable utility capable of playing above his height. Standing 183cm, Lofts was often deployed as a key forward where his strong hands and hardness at the contest allowed him to compete against larger opponents, particularly in heavy, wet conditions where he earned a reputation as a mud-runner. He became a primary avenue to goal during a difficult era for the Saints, most notably topping the club’s goalkicking table in 1978 with 40 majors. Lofts remained a serviceable contributor for St Kilda across six seasons, offering versatility and grit until his final VFL appearance in 1981.
