Stats
Bio
A standout rover from Western Australia, Gary McDonald arrived at St Kilda with a decorated résumé that included Swan Districts' 1975 Best and Fairest award and state selection. Joining the VFL as a mature-age recruit in 1978, he sought to translate his prolific WAFL form to the Victorian stage. McDonald was a goal-kicking midfielder capable of pushing forward to hit the scoreboard, a trait best highlighted during the 1979 season when he booted three goals in consecutive weeks. However, his three-year stint at Moorabbin coincided with a bleak era for the club, and he struggled to cement a regular place in a side that experienced victory just once during his 14 senior appearances.
