Bio
Recruited from the Northern Knights in the 1994 National Draft, Gary Moorcroft developed into a powerful small forward whose stocky build belied an exceptional vertical leap. He cemented his place in Essendon history as a member of the dominant 2000 Premiership team, though his individual career is predominantly defined by his 2001 Mark of the Year over Brad Johnson, widely regarded as one of the greatest grabs ever taken. Despite his goal-kicking ability and cult status at Windy Hill, Moorcroft was delisted at the end of 2002 and subsequently selected by Melbourne in the pre-season draft. His stint at the Demons was short-lived, as persistent back injuries and a lack of opportunity restricted him to a handful of games before his departure from the AFL level in 2003.
