Bio
Recruited from Golden Point in the club's Ballarat country zone, Gary Odgers developed into a reliable defender and utility who became a fixture in the senior side during a lean era for St Kilda. While primarily tasked with nullifying opposition forwards, he enjoyed a standout season in 1985 that cemented his place in Moorabbin folklore; in the final round against Footscray, he uncorked a 60-metre torpedo goal to seal the match, securing the Saints' only home victory of the year. His consistency and dedication were rewarded with the vice-captaincy in 1986, highlighting his leadership qualities despite the team's persistent on-field struggles. After featuring in the 1987 reserves Grand Final, Odgers departed the VFL to forge a successful coaching career in country football and Queensland.
