Stats
Bio
Recruited from East Keilor in the local Essendon District Football League, Gary Young was a homegrown talent who worked his way through the Bombers' under-19s system after arriving in 1974. Standing 185cm, he developed into a versatile utility, winning the reserves' Best Utility Player award in 1976 before breaking into the senior lineup the following year. He played his five career games as a half-forward in the 1977 season, managing a single goal during his brief taste of VFL action. Ultimately, Young's time at the elite level was cut short by his decision to prioritize his professional life, as he sought a clearance to focus on his teaching studies rather than pursuing a long-term football career.
