Bio
Recruited from St Bernard’s, Gavin Keane was a talented wingman who made an immediate impression at Essendon by winning the club’s Best First Year Player award in 1987. He famously formed part of a strong St Bernard’s contingent at Windy Hill, occasionally taking the field alongside fellow alumni such as Simon Madden and Garry Foulds. Despite his promising start, Keane struggled to maintain his spot in a competitive Bombers lineup and failed to play a senior game in 1989. He was subsequently traded to the Brisbane Bears for draft picks, where he played seven games during the 1990 season before finishing his major league career to play in the VFA with Williamstown.
