Bio
Recruited via a rare zone selection directly from the West Kimberley Football Association—despite having already proven himself in the WAFL with Claremont—Gavin Mitchell was a pacy rover and dangerous goal-sneak who brought flair to the AFL. He spent his first two seasons with Fremantle, where his speed and crumbing ability made him a regular contributor in the young club's forward half. However, it was after his trade to St Kilda ahead of the 1998 season that he played his most consistent football. Instantly recognisable by his distinctive moustache, Mitchell enjoyed a career-best campaign in 1999, booting 34 goals and causing headaches for opposition defenders with his elusive ground-level work. Despite his goal-kicking prowess, he fell out of favour as the Saints bottomed out in 2000 and was delisted, finishing his career as a three-time Western Australian state representative.
