Stats
Bio
Recruited locally from Hawthorn Districts, Gene Chiron was a defender who played 37 senior games for the Hawks between 1969 and 1973. He featured eight times during the club's 1971 premiership campaign but was unable to force his way into the side for the finals series. Seeking further opportunities, Chiron crossed to the SANFL to join Central District in 1974, where he notably played in the first-ever match at Football Park and missed a shot that would have been the venue's inaugural goal. His football journey came to a sudden and brutal end later that season when an on-field collision against West Adelaide resulted in a split liver and the removal of a kidney, forcing his immediate retirement.
