Bio
Hailing from the Riverina stronghold of Wagga Wagga and refined at the Xavier College football nursery, Gene Sullivan was a journeyman utility whose VFL career was defined by two distinct spells separated by a six-year absence. He first appeared for St Kilda in 1923, playing six games and kicking one goal as a 20-year-old for a Saints side that struggled near the bottom of the ladder. Following a lengthy hiatus from the elite level, Sullivan was handed a lifeline by Footscray in 1929, where he managed a further three senior appearances and two goals. While never establishing himself as a regular fixture in the starting 18, his ability to hit the scoreboard in limited opportunities saw him serve as a rotational depth player for two clubs during their difficult rebuilding phases.
