Bio
Recruited from Hopetoun in the Wimmera, Geoff Burdett was a versatile small man who split his time between roving and the forward pocket. Standing just 174cm, he proved dangerous near the big sticks, enjoying a breakout season in 1978 where he booted 37 goals in 20 games to finish second on the club's goalkicking table. However, in a move reflective of the era's semi-professional landscape, he surprisingly stepped away from the VFL in his prime to captain-coach Warracknabeal. Burdett was lured back to Windy Hill in 1981 to bolster the Bombers' depth, a successful return that saw him feature on the wing in the club's Night Premiership victory over Carlton. He eventually returned to country football permanently, cementing his status as a regional legend by captain-coaching Hopetoun to back-to-back premierships in the mid-1980s.
