Bio
Hailing from the Collegians Football Club, Geoff Hibbins remains one of the most significant figures in Victorian amateur football history, notably playing his three seasons with St Kilda strictly as an amateur permit player. Standing 183cm, he operated as a mobile ruckman and intelligent on-field leader who was credited by contemporaries as an early adopter of switching the play to open up space. Despite establishing himself in the Saints' senior side, Hibbins chose to return to the VAFA in 1954 rather than turn professional, a move that allowed him to cement his standing as a legend of the amateur game. He went on to win three Woodrow Medals and is immortalised for captaining the amateur Australian team to a famous victory over a combined VFL/VFA lineup in the demonstration match at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
