Bio
Arriving at Fitzroy with a glowing reputation from the Apple Isle, Geoff Hill was a sturdy key defender recruited from New Norfolk in the Tasmanian Football League. Having established himself as one of his home state's premier full-backs, he crossed to the VFL in 1959 under the guidance of the innovative Len Smith. While he showed glimpses of his quality—even polling a Brownlow vote in his debut season—his time at the Brunswick Street Oval was ultimately defined by misfortune. A severe shoulder injury curtailed his progress, restricting him to just 18 games over two seasons and forcing a premature exit from the league. Hill eventually returned to Tasmania where he cemented his status as a local legend, later becoming a premiership player and coach for New Norfolk to earn induction into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
