Bio
A towering ruck-defender recruited from Mooroolbark, Geoff Hocking served a lengthy apprenticeship in the reserves before breaking into Carlton's formidable lineup during a golden era for the club. He arrived at Princes Park in 1977 but had to wait until Round 7, 1981 for his senior debut, where he was called up to replace injured champion Geoff Southby and handed a baptism of fire against Melbourne’s erratic showman Mark 'Jacko' Jackson. While Hocking was a strong overhead mark and a highly regarded team man—twice voting the reserves' Best Clubman—he found it nearly impossible to secure a permanent spot in a backline stacked with premiership stars. He played all six of his career games in the 1981 season before eventually departing to continue his football journey with Claremont in the WAFL and Box Hill in the VFA.
