Bio
A product of Malvern Amateurs, Geoff Mason endured a frustrating wait to join the Demons after initially being blocked by Richmond due to residential zoning ties in 1949. He finally broke into Melbourne's senior side late in the 1951 season, playing four consecutive matches as a defender, but was unable to retain his spot and was delisted during the following pre-season. While his VFL career was brief, Mason found his true footing in the VFA with Camberwell, where he played 126 games and established himself as a premier backman. His excellence for the Cobras was eventually recognised with selection on a half-back flank in the club's Team of the Century.
