Bio
Recruited from the Melbourne High School Old Boys (MHSOB) in the amateur ranks, Geoff McNaughton faced the unenviable task of breaking into a Melbourne side on the verge of a golden dynasty. He was handed his debut in Round 7, 1938, called up as a late replacement for star rover Rowley Fischer in a high-stakes clash against Collingwood at the MCG. McNaughton tasted victory in that first appearance, helping the Demons defeat their arch-rivals, but found sustained opportunities impossible to come by in a squad stacked with future Hall of Fame legends like Norm Smith and Percy Beames. He managed just two senior games in that single season before departing, his career a brief cameo during the club's build-up to their famous premiership hat-trick.
