Bio
Recruited from Tasmanian powerhouse Sandy Bay, Geoff Whitton arrived at Melbourne with a formidable reputation as a William Leitch Medallist and premiership player. The ruckman's transition to the VFL was initially stalled by a clearance dispute that required Demons secretary Jim Cardwell to personally intervene in Hobart to secure his release. Once cleared, Whitton found the step up difficult, with his debut 1967 campaign derailed by a four-week suspension and a broken finger sustained at training. Unable to cement a regular senior spot, he managed just eight games across two seasons before returning to Tasmania in mid-1968 to captain-coach Ulverstone.
