Bio
A product of the country town of Gisborne, George Allan Martin arrived at Melbourne via a stint with Richmond in the VFA during the 1907 season. The 171cm recruit, who had previously captained his local Gisborne side, was given a brief opportunity at VFL level in the middle of the 1908 season. He made the most of his limited chances in front of the sticks, booting a goal in both his debut against Essendon and his second match against Collingwood. However, the city game did not hold him for long; he was cleared back to Gisborne immediately following his second appearance, preferring the bush to the league. Martin later established a legacy beyond football, enlisting in 1916 to serve in the First World War.
