Teams

A homegrown talent recruited from the local Footscray District competition, George Anthony earned his opportunity at the highest level during the club's challenging infancy in the VFL. Breaking into the senior side in 1926, just Footscray's second season in the major league, he was utilized as a forward-half utility who could contribute on the scoreboard. He played ten games in his debut season, booting three goals as the team worked to establish its credentials against established powerhouses. Anthony added a further five appearances in 1927, but with the club aggressively churning through players to find a competitive formula, he was unable to lock down a permanent position. His brief career remains a testament to the local "battlers" who helped build the club's culture in the burgeoning western suburbs during the late 1920s.
