Bio
Recruited from the local Fitzroy All-Youth Club, George Ashman was a solidly built prospect who joined the Maroons during a particularly competitive window for the club. Standing 183cm and weighing 84kg, he possessed the physical dimensions of a key position player or follower by the standards of the early 1950s. He broke into the senior lineup in 1952, a year in which Fitzroy surged to a Preliminary Final, but found it difficult to command a regular spot in such a settled 18. His momentum was further stalled the following season by a severe ankle injury that restricted his availability, ultimately limiting his VFL career to just five appearances over two years before he drifted out of the league.
