Bio
George Ashworth Young was a pioneer of the early VFL era who joined Carlton during the competition's formative years. Recruited from the local Ascot Vale club, he arrived at Princes Park as a teenager and made his senior debut in Round 10, 1898 against Essendon. Young stepped into a Carlton side that was struggling to find its footing in the new league, often finding themselves near the bottom of the ladder. He managed 15 appearances over two seasons, battling away in the navy blue jumper during a lean period for the club before his career concluded at the end of 1899. His life was cut tragically short when he passed away in 1920 at the age of just 41.
