Bio
Recruited from Abbotsford, George Barker was a sharp-shooting forward who broke into the Essendon senior side as a teenager in 1903. He established himself as a potent scoring threat during the low-scoring 'deadball' era, most notably topping the club's goalkicking table in 1905 with 29 majors. That standout season featured his career-best performance against arch-rivals Collingwood, where he booted seven goals in a victory at the intimidating Victoria Park. After a brief stint with Richmond in the VFA in 1906, Barker returned to the Dons the following year to continue his career, eventually finishing with a formidable strike rate of 74 goals from 47 games before moving on to play for Northcote.
