Recruited from Tongala in the Goulburn Valley, George Bisset was a crafty and stocky rover who became a cult hero at the Western Oval. Despite his diminutive stature, Bisset was a powerful ball-winner with a low centre of gravity and a sharp eye for goal, traits that saw him win the Charles Sutton Medal in 1969 and lead the club's goalkicking in 1970. He was the quintessential goal-kicking midfielder of his era, consistently posing a threat when resting forward or roving the packs.

After ten seasons and 166 games with Footscray, Bisset made a high-profile move to Collingwood in 1973, capitalising on the short-lived '10-year rule' that allowed veterans to transfer without a clearance. He made an immediate impact at Victoria Park, playing a key role in the Magpies' finals campaigns during his two seasons at the club before retiring. Bisset's standing in the game was later formally recognised when he was named in the Western Bulldogs Team of the Century, remembered as one of the most skilled small men of his generation.
