Bio
Hailing from the Latrobe Valley town of Yallourn, George Card was a towering figure at Geelong during the immediate post-war era. Standing at an imposing 193cm, he provided rare height and physicality for the Cats, holding down a regular spot as a ruckman and key position player. Despite being a consistent fixture in the senior side for three seasons, he left Kardinia Park just prior to the club's golden era under Reg Hickey, opting to return to his home club of Yallourn as captain-coach in 1949. While his own VFL tenure was relatively brief, his family legacy at the club continued decades later through his son, Ray Card, who became a cult hero defender for the Cats in the 1970s.
