Bio
Recruited from Maffra in Gippsland, George Carter was a tall forward who faced the unenviable task of breaking into Collingwood’s formidable attacking setup during the 1930s. Standing 187cm, he possessed the size and goal-kicking ability to be a key position player, yet found his path to regular senior football blocked by legendary figures like Gordon Coventry and Ron Todd. Despite booting 60 goals in 49 games across six seasons at Victoria Park, he did not feature in the club's 1935 or 1936 premiership campaigns, leaving him with the distinction of playing nearly 50 games for the Magpies without a single finals appearance. Seeking greater opportunity, Carter transferred to Hawthorn in 1938, where he immediately became a consistent contributor for the Mayblooms before retiring in 1940. He is also noted as the uncle of long-serving Sydney Swans defender Rod Carter.
