Bio
Arriving at Glenferrie Oval from the amateur powerhouse Collegians, George Cathie joined Hawthorn during a period when his father, former Melbourne player George James Cathie, was serving as the club's VFL delegate. He stepped up from the VAFA to make his senior debut midway through the 1929 season, quickly establishing himself as a regular selection for the Mayblooms during a lean on-field era. Unlike his father, who was a goal-kicking rover, Cathie played a more defensive role and managed just a single major across his 20 appearances. He played ten games in each of his two seasons before departing the VFL scene at the end of 1930, leaving behind a legacy as a sturdy contributor from a prominent footballing family.
