Bio
Recruited from the Essendon reserves, George Clissold was a mature-age addition to the Footscray squad as the club navigated its historic admission to the VFL in 1925. Blocked for senior opportunities at the powerful Bombers—who were the reigning premiers at the time—the 25-year-old crossed to the Western Oval to play a vital depth role during the club's foundation years in the top tier. A serviceable utility capable of filling gaps in the lineup, Clissold made his debut in Round 8 against Richmond and held his spot for the remainder of that inaugural season. He managed just a handful of appearances in 1926 before departing, largely remembered today as one of the pioneer players who helped establish the Tricolours' presence in the big league.
