Bio
George Davidson was a rugged defender who arrived at South Melbourne for the inaugural VFL season after serving his apprenticeship with Collingwood in the VFA. Stationed primarily on a half-back flank, he became a pillar of the Bloods' defence, renowned for his consistency and ability to repel opposition forays. His standing in the game peaked during the 1899 season, where he was named one of South's best players in their heartbreaking one-point Grand Final loss to Fitzroy and earned selection in The Argus team of the year. Appointed club captain for the 1900 season, Davidson's leadership tenure was cut tragically short when he suffered a career-ending broken leg in the final quarter of Round 1 against Essendon, forcing the new skipper into premature retirement.
