Stats
Bio
Hailing from the Milawa Football Club in north-east Victoria, George Gardiner made a fleeting but effective appearance for St Kilda during the 1906 VFL season. Brought down to the Junction Oval as a country recruit, he was immediately thrown into the forward line where he displayed a natural eye for the posts, booting a goal in each of his two senior matches. Despite maintaining a perfect average of a goal a game—a respectable return in the low-scoring dead-ball era—his tenure at the elite level ended as quickly as it began. Gardiner did not push on with the Saints beyond that brief stint, eventually returning to the Wangaratta district where he lived out his days, remaining one of the many bush footballers who dipped a toe into the VFL before disappearing back into regional obscurity.
