Bio
A resilient utility from the South Melbourne Juniors, George Goodall arrived at Victoria Park after being overlooked by his local club. His path to the top level was marked by significant personal fortitude; he earned his spot on the Magpies' list just weeks after his father tragically drowned in the Yarra River, impressing selectors with a tenacious performance in a trial match while still in mourning. Though he stood just 173cm, Goodall was a versatile operator capable of playing on a flank or in a pocket at either end of the ground. While he managed only three senior appearances across two seasons—struggling to hold his place in a ruthless Collingwood lineup—his attitude was exemplary, famously winning a gold medal for his commitment on the training track in 1913. Unable to cement a regular senior berth, he eventually departed midway through 1914 to continue his career in the VFA with Northcote and Port Melbourne.
